Reuters reports:

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the 2010 ruling of the Allahabad High Court in the Ayodhya land dispute, ordering status quo in one of the country’s most religiously divisive cases.

TOI reported yesterday:

A bench of justices Aftab Alam and R M Lodha will hear the appeals filed by Nirmohi Akhara, Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, Jamait Ulama-I-Hind and Sunni Central Wakf Board. A petition has also been filed on behalf of Bhagwan Ram Virajman (seated Baby Ram).

On the new court order, HT says:

“It was a strange and surprising order that was not prayed for by any of the parties and cannot be allowed to remain,” it said.

While admitting the appeals by all the parties, the court said that “status quo as a disputed site will remain as directed by the constitution bench of the apex court by its verdict of Jan 7 1993 and that of March 13-14, 2002”.
