Recession and migration

leave a comment »

NYT has put together a wonderful multimedia tool which shows that there is a recession in the USA approximately once a decade. So why is this one so bad?

Not only do analysts say it is bad, but according to Gallup so do potential immigrants:

Gallup's poll on desire to emigrate

It seems safe to assume that people from Europe or North America are still not thinking of migrating to Bangalore or Beijing, so their perceptions about migration are unchanged. However, most people from the rest of the world migrate to Europe or North America (this is also shown in the same poll), and their confidence in these economies has taken a blow. Was this the pattern in previous recessions as well?
