Sikkim before the quake
Driving down from Lachen to Gangtok many months before the quake I saw lovely houses like this by the way side. They used to hang over steep slopes which fell into the river Teesta far below as it spent its energies carving valleys out of the stone. Even then I wondered how stable they are; earthquakes were far from my mind, but rain induced landslides were a daily occurrence. Now I wonder how many of these houses remain standing.
