Manmohan Singh should know that it is not enough to be Caesar’s wife, the prime minister has to be Caesar. ET reports a clear sign of hoarding and profiteering:

Onion prices crashed in wholesale across Maharashtra, the country’s leading onion producing region, but retail prices continued to rise in the rest of the country.

A worried government stepped up efforts to contain prices, as political wrangling began with Bihar Chief minister Nitish Kumar blaming the centre for the skyrocketing price of onions.

Onion prices rose to as high as Rs 85 per kg in some retail markets,

In a letter to the secretaries of Departments of Consumer Affairs and Agriculture, the Prime Minister’s office urged immediate action to curb prices, an agency report said.

Onion prices rose further to Rs 70-80 a kg in retail markets, but fell nearly 33% in Nashik on Tuesday. In the other wholesale markets of Maharashtra also prices dropped sharply.

The story of this government in a nutshell: governance only when the opposition wakes up. This happened in the commonwealth games scam, the Adarsh scam, the 2G spectrum scam, and now with prices of vegetables. As the Nira Radia tapes show, Manmohan Singh’s government is in the pockets of big industrialists.
